During the past few decades, the field has expanded considerably beyond its traditional home territory of Plato and Aristotle and found rich material for intellectual exploration in the Presocratics as well as Hellenistic philosophers, Neoplatonists, and even the sophists. A series of wider philosophical developments, most prominently (but not exclusively) the advent of modern virtue ethics, has made ancient philosophy feel newly relevant to the discipline of philosophy more broadly.
