Philosophy News and Our Approach to Ads

We know people dislike ads. As content consumers, we don’t like them much either. As a web publisher, however, we rely on ads (and money generated when you purchase products from affiliate links like those to Amazon books) to keep our content free and available. Specifically, showing you ads helps pay for the hosting costs of the site. Even so, the current ads we show only pay for a fraction of the hosting costs each month. Once we’re able to cover the costs of running the site, we’d like to generate more revenue so we can pay quality authors to write articles, provide richer content that covers a broader range of topic areas in philosophy and continue to add features.

Our approach to ads

We’ve done our best to keep ads to a minimum. We know being bombarded with ads on a page is not only annoying but it can slow down your experience and make reading on the web unpleasant. Our goal is to provide content first so we have tried to strategically place ads so they’re not annoying. We also use the ad service provided by Google. Since ads are Google’s bread and butter, they have worked hard to build an ad system that delivers value to you the reader. Ads are geared towards things you may care about and we use their system so you can have a better experience.

Our ask of you

You can help us keep the content on Philosophy News free and still pay the bills. If you use an ad blocker, please consider whitelisting Philosophy News in your ad blocking software or add-in. This small effort will help us as we work to achieve our publishing goals. If you absolutely do not want to see ads, then we would appreciate a donation to help us. Any amount helps. You can use the button below to donate using PayPal’s trusted e-commerce system. The payment is processed through Bogeden Studios, LLC which is the company we use to process payments and take care of other business transactions. Also, using our affiliate links (which we mainly use for books listed throughout the site) helps too.

We can’t thank you enough for supporting us either by whitelisting or by a donation. For donations of $75 or more send your name, address, the amount you donated and the date to info@philosophynews.com and we’ll send you a Philosophy News coffee mug in appreciation.

Thanks!
